Research project: Media and narratives of popular culture - Tensions and disputes around history and memory

This proposal starts from the understanding of the articulation between communication, memory and history, to observe the role of the Media in the production and circulation of meanings, perceptions and affections that constitute texts and discourses related to social experience, in a historical and cultural dimension. In this sense, the proposal is to analyze media productions that point to tensions and disputes present in contemporary Brazilian society. Based on a theoretical and conceptual approach aimed at examining communication processes in their dual condition, of expression and construction of meanings, and their relationship with ways of perceiving the world and triggering affections, it is intended to expand knowledge about the performance of forms. media and expressive ones that discuss, from a counter-hegemonic perspective, issues of women, ethnicity, gender identity and territory. They are constituted as empirical materials for the observation of the intersection between media, memory and history, productions that destabilize aspects of hegemony, in expressive forms of media and/or values, meanings and cultural practices.

Research project: Censorship Mentality: expressions of leaders in Journalism and the censorship of Telenovela (1970-1988)

This project is divided into two parts. The first seeks to understand the censorship mentality of the censorship process leaders reflected in journalism. The censorship we aim to study is Public Entertainment. Why censorship leaders? according to the organizational chart expressed in Decree No. 20,493 of January 24, 1946, responsible for approving the regulation of the Public Entertainment Censorship Service (SCDP), as well as its modifications, we understand: 1) Minister of Justice; 2) Head of the Federal Police Department; 3) Director of SCDP (which, as of 1972, is renamed the Public Entertainment Censorship Division [DCDP]). The second part of the project consists of comparing the speeches expressed and the documents (especially opinions) prepared by the censors and deposited in the National Archives of Brasília. As an outline, in this phase of the project, we favored the censorship of telenovelas, using the same time period (1970-1988). We understand that the process of censoring public entertainment for cinema, theater, music and books has already received several and important academic studies. Television, the main communication vehicle of the period, and the telenovela genre, the main product of our cultural industry, still lack research. In addition, we favor telenovelas in the 20-hour band, the noblest in the market. During the period, the following stations presented telenovelas: Tupi, Globo, Record, Band, TVS/SBT and Manchete. In the theoretical universe, the vision of mentality developed by Michel Vovelle (1991) is privileged and in the technical-methodological scope we operate with documental analysis.

Research project: History of the press in 19th century Brazil: a research network (chapter Bahia)

The lack of synthesis works on the history of communication produces some problems in research aimed at interpreting the communicational movements and processes involved in the construction of this history. Even today, in the 21st century, the main work of synthesis on the history of the press in Brazil remains the valuable work of Nelson Werneck Sodré, written in 1966 and tributary to an interpretation that privileged Marxism as a theoretical touchstone for the explanation of historical assumptions of the press in Brazil. From there until the second decade of the 21st century, much research was carried out, but few synthesis works on the history of the press were produced. Faced with this diagnosis, we integrate, like the Bahia chapter, a network of researchers who, together, will produce a new interpretation of the history of the Brazilian press, initially limiting it to studies in the 19th century.

Research project: Literary sharing for the development of interdisciplinary reading practices: a proposal for mediation in public schools in the states of Bahia and Rondônia

This research intends to discuss the issue of the institutional place of literature in Basic Education through an action-research carried out with high school teachers from public schools in two Brazilian states, namely Bahia and Rondônia. It will be developed in investigative spaces mediated by action research, called, in this work, interdisciplinary experimental laboratories, whose subject-teachers are authors of reflections on the institutional place of literature. It is an offshoot of the project. One of the hypotheses is that the creation of environments for proposing and listening to interdisciplinary practices in the field of literature will allow a better recognition of the current state of literature in light of the educational public policies proposed for Basic Education with regard to the area under study . It is assumed that currently other areas such as Education and the teaching of Portuguese Language do not consider literature as a discipline that has its own field of action, with the idea that it is only the medium of linguistic expressions and political-ideological.
